Description
This eye-catching necklace is made from the wing of the Morpho didius butterfly, also known as the giant blue morpho. It is considered, by some, to be a subspecies of Morpho menelaus. Its wingspan can reach 5.9 inches, making it one of the largest of the Morpho species. Their bright, iridescent blue coloring is a result of the microscopic scales on the backs of their wings, which reflect light. The underside of the morpho’s wings, on the other hand, is a pale color with many eyespots, providing camouflage against predators such as birds and insects when its wings are closed. This beautiful species is found in Peru. Their beauty is brief however, as its entire life cycle lasts only about 115 days!
Set in 950 silver (950 silver or Brittania silver is an alloy made of 95 percent silver, which exceeds the requirement for sterling silver. It is most often marked 950. This silver will be slightly softer than sterling pieces marked 925 or simply sterling). Shiny, shimmery loveliness! Reversible!
