Notes on Bundenbach Fossils….
*Lagerstätte Status: Because of this incredible preservation, the site is classified as a Konservat-Lagerstätte, a rare type of fossil deposit that contains an unusual amount of high-quality paleontological data
*Closed Mines: Most slate mining in Bundenbach ended by 1999–2000. Since fossils were primarily found as a byproduct of this mining, new material is now very limited.
*Old Collections: Most specimens currently on the market come from “old collections” that were found decades ago while the mines were still operational.
