Celestite (or Celestine-the International Mineralogical Association-recognized name) is a strontium sulfate mineral with the formula SrSO4, sometimes containing minor calcium and/or barium. Its name is derived from the Latin word caelestis, meaning celestial, which, in turn, is derived from the Latin word caelum, meaning sky or heaven. It ranks a 3-3.5 on the Mohs Hardness Scale. It is mostly found in sedimentary rocks and is often associated with gypsum, halite, and anhydrite. These pale blue crystal specimens are found in Madagascar, but it is found worldwide, usually in small quantities. Most often found in shades of pale blue and white, colors can vary from pink to orange, pale green, pale brown, grey, and even colorless.
Celestite is said to have a gentle, tranquil, and soothing energy. It is thought that by placing a crystal in the bedroom, perhaps on a bedside table, it will help calm the mind and uplift the spirit. It it also said to encourage solution-oriented dreams..as in, answers that will come to you in your sleep.
