Morado opal, also called “purple opal” and “opal royale,” is a purple and white variety of common opal found in central Mexico in 2011. Its name is derived from the Spanish word “morado” which means “purple.” Its chemical composition is SiO2 (silicon dioxide). It mainly crystallizes in the form of nodules and masses and does not have the usual “fire” of opal. Its lovely purple color is caused by tiny fluorite inclusions. Morado opal is said to be a stone of tranquility and spiritual connection. In healing, it is believed to bring peace and calm to mind and emotion, and help us to align with our intentions.
