CHRYSOPRASE, a bright apple green chalcedony, is one of the rarest and most valuable members of the quartz family with a hardness of 7. It often occurs in nodules, or crevices in nickel deposits. Its color, derived from its nickel content, is reminiscent of sunlight shining through fresh spring leaves. Chrysoprase was valued as a gemstone in ancient Greece as far back as 400 BC. It is a stone of compassion and forgiveness, and can provide the courage to face difficult situations. It is also said to be an excellent stone for prosperity, attracting love, and maintaining a youthful spirit, outlook, and energy. Important deposits are found in Australia, Brazil, Madagascar, South Africa, and Russia.
