CHRYSOPRASE, a bright apple green chalcedony, is one of the rarest and most valuable members of the quartz family with a hardness of 7. It often occurs in nodules, or crevices in nickel deposits. Its color, derived from its nickel content, is reminiscent of sunlight shining through fresh spring leaves. Chrysoprase was valued as a gemstone in ancient Greece as far back as 400 BC.
