Moonstone, a member of the feldspar family, is a potassium aluminum silicate with a hardness of 6 to 6.5. Although named for its silver-white sheen, it is also found in peach and gray. More recently, it is the multi-colored Rainbow Moonstone that has captivated the gemstone lover. In India, its primary source, moonstone is considered a sacred stone with special significance for lovers; it is often given as a traditional wedding gift to bring harmony to new marriages. Said to be the keeper of feminine mysteries, it can help one sort through their emotions and gain perspective. It can also evoke patience and encourage appropriate action. In addition to India, moonstone can be found in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Myanmar, Australia, Russia, and the United States.
