Larimar

LARIMAR, a rare form of blue pectolite, has been mined exclusively in the Dominican Republic since 1974. Most is mined in difficult mountain terrain, but a small amount can be found in the Rio Baoruco riverbed. The blue and less common green veins are found under a layer of basalt that contains red hematite. White calcite and hematite inclusions can form fern-like patterns in some stones. Larimar has a hardness of 5 to 6, and is considered extremely tough. The blue tones are said to calm the spirit, the greens assist in healing, and the red patterns strengthen the will. Larimar can also work to bring truth to communications.
